Boulder, Colorado is known for its irreverence and uniqueness. In the late 80s and early 90s, a fleet of public transportation buses was introduced with brightly-colored, eye-catching designs. In 2015, new, 40’ buses were ordered to replace the older, 30’ buses that had been in circulation. I was contacted by Boulder County Department of Transportation to design new vehicle wraps for five buses: The Dash, The Bound, The Jump, The Stampede and The Skip. After a lengthy design charette, involving Department of Transportation executives, RTD officials and employees of the University of Colorado transportation department, it was decided we would use the existing bus designs as a jumping-off point, but design completely new artwork for all the buses. The project was begun in October of 2015 and the buses were wrapped and put into rotation in late summer of 2017.
